in Psoriasis

Who Should Apply?
Dermatology Nurse Specialists who expect to be directly
involved in the administration of the new biologic therapies for psoriasis
and the assessment of potentially suitable psoriasis patients.
Intended Outcomes
The course will provide up-to-date information on:
- The Biologic Therapies in Psoriasis (how they work, efficacy and
side effect profiles)
- The BAD Guidelines for the Use of Biological Interventions in Psoriasis
- How to assess patient eligibility and Monitor patients on treatment
in practice.

Preliminary Programme
- An overview of severe psoriasis and its current management
- An overview of the biologic therapies in psoriasis
- The BAD guidelines for the use of biological interventions in psoriasis
- How to PASI score
- How to DLQI score
- Assessment of patients using PASI
- Monitoring requirements with biologic therapies
- The rheumatology nurse experience of the practical management of
biologic therapies - "Sharing best practice"
Learning Objectives

To review the basics of the immune system, and to recognise the
concept of psoriasis as an immune-mediated disease.

To recognise the place for biological treatments for psoriasis in the
context of other second and third line treatments for this disorder.

To understand the various mechanism of action of the biologic
therapies and explain them to patients.

To understand the benefits and side effects of biological therapies,
and discuss these with prospective patients.

To have the skills and knowledge to be able to complete documentation
required for registration of psoriasis patients receiving biological
therapies.
At the end of the six week course
students will be required to complete a series of reflection points which
will consolidate learning. Upon successful completion of the course a
certificate of attendance will be issued.
